A story
Dodo the Duckling Finds a Friend
Dodo is a little yellow duckling. Dodo lives by a big blue pond.
Every day Dodo swims alone. Paddle, paddle, paddle.
One day, a new frog comes to the pond. He sits on a lily pad. He is small and green and quiet.
Dodo wants to say hello. But Dodo feels shy. Her feet go wiggle, wiggle.
"What if he does not want to play?" thinks Dodo.
Mother Duck says, "A friend starts with one small hello."
Dodo paddles a little closer. Paddle, paddle.
"H-hello," says Dodo. "I am Dodo."
The frog looks up. "Hello! I am Tito. I am new here. I do not know anyone."
"You know me now!" says Dodo.
Tito smiles. "Can you show me the pond?"
"Yes!" says Dodo.
Dodo shows Tito the tall reeds. Swish, swish.
Tito shows Dodo how to jump. Hop, hop, hop!
Dodo tries to hop. Splash! They both laugh.
They play hide and seek in the reeds. They count the fish. One, two, three, four, five.
When the sun goes down, Tito says, "Will you play tomorrow?"
"Yes!" says Dodo. "Every day!"
Now Dodo does not swim alone.
Paddle, paddle, hop, hop. Two friends at the pond.
