A story
Zaki and the Broken Blue Cup
Zaki likes to run. Run, run, run! He runs in the garden. He runs in the hall.
"Walk inside, please," says Dad.
But Zaki runs into the kitchen. Run, run... bump!
His elbow hits the table. The blue cup falls.
Crash! The blue cup breaks into three pieces.
It is Dad's blue cup. Dad drinks his tea in it every morning.
Zaki feels hot in his cheeks. His tummy feels funny.
He wants to hide behind the door.
Dad comes into the kitchen. He sees the pieces on the floor.
Zaki takes a big breath. He walks to Dad. Walk, walk, walk.
"Dad, I ran inside. I hit the table. I broke your cup. I am sorry."
Dad kneels down. "Thank you for telling me, Zaki. Are you hurt?"
"No," says Zaki.
"Good. Stand back. I will pick up the sharp pieces."
Then Dad gets a broom. Zaki holds the dustpan. Sweep, sweep, sweep.
"Tomorrow, can I help you find a new cup?" asks Zaki.
"Yes," says Dad with a hug. "You can choose the colour."
The next day, Dad drinks his tea from a new yellow cup.
And Zaki walks inside. Walk, walk, walk.
